11/29/2007 23/11/2007No Shooting this week. Instead we held a reloading session. We covered primer types, projectile types, even managed acouple of sectioned projectiles and cases.
The kids ran through the mechanics of reloading by loading their own 308 winchester round, sans powder and primers!
The day went reasonably well and hopefully the youngsters can see there is no magic in reloading just care and paitience.
Many Thanks to Dillon and Frank for their assistance.
Next time out will be the last for this year and as a reward for a good year we will attempt to have a few shots from a couple of handguns. Hopefully the appropriate permits will be issed in time. 11/11/2007 NovemberThings are looking good for our junior shooters.
We had a feild rifle shoot on the 26 October, and didn't score the shoot. The next one will be scored and we should see some reasonable scores. The rifles still prove to be a bit heavy but the improvement in scores shows we have some muscle development.
The rapid fire portion of the event is slowly coming together as we learn that 3 shots in 15 seconds is doable without panicking :-)
Last friday we shot a rimfire shilouette match and the scores are very good:
Dat 0
Luke 8
Cruz 7
Zac 11
Jordan 2
James 18
Well done to you all especially James, that is a top score!
To show how well these juniors have done, the club held its Rimfire Shilouette Championships a month ago and the top three scores were - 13, 11, and 9!!
Next time out we will be running through some reloading procedures and having a look at different types of reloading tools and why care neds to be taken with reloading.
Should be fum. 10/13/2007 October alreadyTime flies - I have been away for the last few shoots and the students have been learning about arcs of fire and as always safety is paramount.
The fun is over we are now shooting proper matches and the results are good to see.
This week we shot a full rimfire rifle silouette match and the results are very good. Remember these are 14-15 year olds with rifles that while light for an adult do get very heavy when held for forty shots.
Just for interests sake these targets consist of 10 Chickens standing about 40mm high at 40 metres, 10 Pigs of about 50mm high at 60 metres, 10 Turkeys about 100mm high at 77 metres and 10 Rams of about 80mm high at 100 metres
The weather was disgusting. Temerature was about 30 odd with a gusting wind across the range.
Scores are:
James 9
Luke 6
Cruz 4
Dat 9
Reece 2
Zac 11
Very good shooting, and well done to Luke with 11!
Next time out there will be a full rimfire Field rifle event. 7/25/2007 Mid Year 2007Well 6 months have flown by. We have kads out every wednesday and every second Friday which is keeping us busy. There is a problem at one of our schools - the new headmaster is not keen on having students shooting but the students are eager, which may be enough to keep it going. Numbers have dropped a little but any shooters are worth our while keeping it going and we now have some turning up to the regular weekend shoots which is good to see. 1/26/2007 2007 - A new begining!2006 finished on a high with all the kids enjoying themselves and some now turning up to sunday shoots.
2007 looms large with our first groups due Friday 02 February. We have changed the program a little which, hopefully, will make it a little better and just as much fun. |
